Excursions in the nearby surroundings


The Achensee is located 380 m above the Inntal and north of the community of Jenbach. With a depth of 133 m, the Achensee is Tyrol's largest lake. Its crystal-clear water is ideal for many water activities - in the summer months, it boasts a perfect swimming temperature of around 22 °. Its cog railway and boat ride make the Achensee a wonderful excursion destination for all ages! For 126 years, the steam cog railway has been huffing and puffing up the mountain. From Jenbach in the Inntal to the Achensee, it tackles 440 vertical meters over 7 km: the Achensee steam cog railway is the oldest of its kind in Europe and is still in constant use. Once you reach the lake, awaiting you is a steamboat of the "Achenseeschiffahrt". You can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic ride on the "MS Achensee".

Arena Coaster – alpine coaster in the Zillertal

The 1,450 m long coaster starts right at the valley station of the Zillertal Arena in Zell and is a great winter attraction with waves, steep turns, and jumps. A 360° loop and a 540° loop provide an extra kick of adrenaline.

  • Children 4-10 yrs. old must ride with an accompanying, older person (over 16 yrs. old)!

Zell am Ziller adventure playground

The Zillertal Arena in Zell am Ziller is an adventure land for all ages - giant tube slide, excellent climbing offers, the finest trampoline facility, and a 1.5 km long alpine coaster.

At the valley station of the Arena Coaster is a giant realm for little climbers, sliders, jumpers, and swingers. There is also a trampoline that young and old can enjoy. The adventure playground with the alpine coaster has become a meeting place for families with children.

Tower with bagjump

Right next to the Arena Coaster is the new Bagjump – a huge air cushion that you jump onto! The BAGJUMP is an oversized air cushion that provides a soft landing. Brave visitors can jump from great heights on the Bagjump.

The Bagjump is open daily from July to September.

Durlaßboden reservoir

The crystal-clear spring water of the Durlaßboden reservoir warms up in summer to a pleasant 20° to 23° and makes Gerlos a great insider's tip for water sports enthusiasts! Learn how to surf or sail in the Gerlos surfing and sailing school or simply relax by splashing around in the water, swimming, or riding a pedal boat. A spacious sunbathing area right on the lake with a large children's playground and grilling opportunity provides for relaxation on the Gerlos mountain lake.   

A special hiking tip: the loop trail around the reservoir with refreshment opportunities at Alpengasthof Finkau, the rustic Bärschlagalm, and at the Seestüberl right on the dam crest.

Erlebnissennerei Zillertal

What is actually in the products that we consume daily? How can you be sure that what you are eating is high quality? 

Learn about traditional as well as modern processing of hay milk! Each day, fresh hay milk from around 400 hill farms and mountain farms is processed in the ErlebnisSennerei Zillertal. On 6000 m² and at a variety of stations, you can watch as cheese, yogurt, butter, etc. are made!  

Traditional cheese making

Take a peek over the cheese maker's shoulder as he works!
Years of experience, specialized knowledge, and a fine-tuned sense for cheese - we bring hay milk to life here! You can get a glimpse of the daily activities of production. In addition, an audio guide, videos, and info boards will provide you with more information!  

Riederklamm Flying Fox

At dizzying heights of 80 meters, the new Flying Fox in the Riederklamm climbing garden is a highlight for all adrenaline junkies. Two routes lead over the Riederklamm gorge. Guides will accompany you on your Flying Fox tour and ensure safety and provide instruction for use of equipment.

Zell recreational park

On over 45,000 m², you will find all kinds of recreational opportunities:
outdoor pool with sports pool, giant slide, children's pool, adventure playground, beach volleyball court, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, mini golf, bowling lane, soccer, fun court (volleyball, streetball, and basketball), as well as a wonderful park. The "Restaurant-Café im Park" with a panoramic view of the Zillertal mountains offers delicious refreshments!

Gold mine and cheese dairy

One of the great adventures of past centuries – the gold mine on the Hainzenberg. See the inside of the mountain and get a glimpse of the 350 years of culture of this almost forgotten branch of industry with an impressive multi-media presentation in the tunnel. Get an impression of the working conditions underground, the lifestyle of the miners, and the miner's social environment.

The excursion starts at the cheese dairy including the cheese museum and animal park on the Hainzenberg and ends at the Knappensäule, where the miners of old used to thank the Virgin Mary for keeping them safe in the mine.

The price includes a ride on the Goldexpress (sightseeing train) from the parking lot at the Zell recreational park or other stops in town to the Knappensäule, shuttle to the starting point of the excursion at the dairy with animal park on the Hainzenberg, guided hike to the mine tunnel, and protective clothing for the duration of the underground tour.

Hintertux glacier

The Tuxertal is a breathtaking high valley at the end of the Zillertal. With its colossal masses of ice, the Hintertux glacier is the ideal ski area in all seasons. Under the Spannagelhaus on the Hintertux glacier is access to Tyrol's most significant, 10 km long cave. On tours through the Spannagelhöhle, you can marvel at stalactites and crystals.

High ropes course in Gerlos

Experience the newly expanded high ropes course with 60 stations including 15 new zip lines! 

After training with guides and balancing exercises, you can head into the treetops at heights of 10 to 15 meters. The high ropes course resembles an obstacle course consisting of ropes, cables, and tree trunks.

NEW: 15 newly built zip lines

Krimml waterfalls

A special highlight during a summer vacation is a visit to the Krimml waterfalls. Along with being a natural spectacle, the Krimml waterfalls are also gaining in importance as a natural remedy.

Natural spectacle

Experience Europe's largest waterfalls with its powerful masses of water and impressive roar. With a height of 380 m, the waterfalls are the 5th highest in the world and are Austria's only natural monument certified with the nature protection diploma of the Council of Europe. The waterfalls can be reached directly via a foot path, along which you can feel the refreshing spray and impressive power of the water. In the middle of the wonderful alpine world, they delight every visitor and create unforgettable vacation moments.

Natural remedy

Natural remedies are becoming increasingly important. The high humidity created by the waterfalls counteracts the symptoms of asthma. 

Swarovski Crystal Worlds

Since 1995, the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens have enchanted visitors as one of the most-visited attractions in Austria. Experience this three-dimensional museum with crystals and light and sound installations by international media artist Andre Heller in Wattens.

Tratzberg Castle

Exciting tour for all ages through the 500 year old, late Gothic Tratzberg Castle. Here, you will find originally furnished rooms such as the Habsburg hall, the queen's chamber, a hunting hall, armory, chapel, and the "Zum Schlosswirt" restaurant with culinary treats, a large garden, and children's playground.

Arena Skyliner - not for the faint-hearted!

The Arena Skyliner is a further development of the Flying Fox and offers adrenaline lovers even more action from an incomparable bird's-eye perspective! The Arena Skyliner leads over the Gerlosstein area along 4 routes with a length of 738 m and reaches speeds of up to 50 km/hr.

Zillertaler Höhenstraße

With a total length of 48 km, the Zillertaler Höhenstraße is one of Austria's most beautiful alpine roads and

  • offers every visitor a magnificent ride up to an elevation of 2,020 m; a ride up on bike is also possible
  • provides gorgeous panoramas of the Zillertal Alps
  • is the starting point for numerous mountain hikes
  • brings visitors to the only alpine garden in the Zillertal
